We are excited to be welcoming:

Bobby Joseph - our new Comics Laureate and esteemed writer and cartoonist: An acclaimed South London comic creator whose work has often challenged and inspired its readers. His work includes the creation of cult comic classic Skank magazine. He has written for The Guardian newspaper, Dazed and Confused, and Vice.com. He has been a vocal advocate for diversity and representation in comic books. His graphic novel, Scotland Yardie, published by Knockabout Comics in 2017, was the first diverse graphic novel to be studied as a module on an English Literature MA course at King’s College, London.  He is the current Comics Laureate for the UK.

Rachael Ball - Graphic Novellist and Educator: Plots, Pants, Memories and What Ifs! - How I get my story ideas’. Rachael Ball discusses her Creative Process and teaches a creative writing exercise as part of the session.

Lucy Sullivan - Comic Writer and Artist: ‘Process, Paths & Pitfalls’ Lucy covers her working practices (graphic novels, commissioned artists) and how she made her way into comics. She will also cover different aspects of the industry she’s worked in (publishing, independent, crowdfunded, Arts Council grants).

David Leach - Senior Creative Editor, Titan Publishing

The Creative Mentor Network - panel discussion: CMN Director Natasha Khan chairs a panel with Steve Marchant - The Cartoon Museum’s Learning Officer and freelance cartoonist, Leo Ioviero - Illustrator and Storyboard artist whose comic ‘Waiting’ was shortlisted at the V&A Illustration Awards 2022 and CMN Mentee - (tbc)

Association of Illustrators - ‘Publishing Contracts Masterclass’ Join Derek Brazell from the AOI will guide you through copyright, contracts, rights, advances, royalties and important clauses to watch out for, including an AI update.

Society of Authors - ‘Negotiating with publishers’ – Join Nicola Solomon, Chief Executive of the SoA and discover phrases that are guaranteed to make money, how to get funding and negotiate, following the money and getting out when things go wrong.
